Scandinavian Glogg
If the Scandinavians know anything, it’s how to get through a harsh winter. Glogg is their secret weapon against the cold. Well not really secret, but don’t let that stop you from trying to this delicious hot drink.
Ingredients:
- 3/4 cup port wine
- 1-1/2 cup fruity red wine (Beaujolais)
- 1 tbsp brandy, or to taste
- 3 tbps rum, or to taste
- 1/4 cup white sugar, or to taste
- 1/4 cup raisins
- 1 (2 inch) cinnamon stick
- 3-3/4 whole cloves
- The peel from 1/4 orange cut into thin strips
- 1/4 cup slivered almonds
- 3/4 tsp cardamom pods
Method of Preparation:
1. Tie the orange peel, cinnamon stick, whole cloves, and cardamom pods in a cheesecloth.
2. On medium low heat simmer the port, red wine and the spice containing cheesecloth, don’t let it boil.
3. Add in the sugar, brandy and rum and stir for 5 minutes until completely dissolved.
4. In a bowl mix together the raisins and almonds.
5. Take the cheesecloth out of the Glögg.
6. Pour the hot Glogg in 4 mugs and in each mug stir in a spoonful of the raisin almond mix.
7. Enjoy.
