Steel-cut oats are one of my favorite breakfasts during the cold winter months, and this recipe for four is a family go-to. Boil water, milk, almond extract, and honey together, and then simmer with oats and frozen blueberries. All the flavors melt together deliciously, while just a pinch of salt brings out the sweetness.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup 1% milk
- 1 teaspoon pure almond extract
- 2 tablespoons honey
- ½ cup dry steel-cut oats
- 1 cup frozen blueberries
- Pinch of salt
Instructions:
1. Pour water, milk, almond extract, and honey into a saucepan and put on a hot stove-top.
2. When boiling, add oats and blueberries.
3. Reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring every now and then.
4. Add salt.
5. Cook for another 3-5 minutes until the oats have the texture you like.
6. Stir and serve!
